Philosophy
  • I believe that the evaluation of student work should be specific positive feedback, which aids in the student's continued success throughout the academic semester.
  • I expect the individual student to push themselves academically to his/their/her capability.
  • Consequently, the reason for grading is to give the appropriate feedback to the student for a particular graded assignment.
Guidelines
  • I will relate grading procedures to learning goals.
  • I will use quality assessments and accurately record students' evidence of achievement.
  • I will continually involve students in assessment, including grading, throughout the teaching and learning process.

Late Work
  • Late PAPERS will be allowed with a 5-POINT deduction every day late.
  • After the FIFTH (5TH) DAY late, the task will be a ZERO, and the MULLIGAN OPTION is NOT GIVEN.
  • Late MULTIMEDIA PROJECTS will have the same regulations as PAPERS, unless of extraordinary circumstances (school-related activities are not extraordinary circumstances).
  • All end of semester projects and papers must be turned in at the conclusion of the semester; if not turned-in, the grade will be a ZERO.
  • The late policy is not applicable to papers and projects at the end of the semester.

Plagiarism
  • Refer to Middle/High Schools' policy.

Make-up
  • Make-up work will be allowed only with extraordinary circumstances (school-related activities are not extraordinary circumstances).

Music in Class
  • Music is allowed in class, only if the lyrics are appropriate for a school environment (i.e., no explicit lyrics).
  • Music is a privilege and not a right; therefore, students must be working progressively, if listening to music.
  • TIER ONE:  There will be a THREE STRIKE OUT RULE in effect for students' ability to listen to music in class; if a student is asked three (3) times to get to work, he/they/she will lose the music privileges for the remaining period.
  • TIER TWO: Repeat offenders: If a student breaks the THREE STRIKE OUT RULE three (3) times in an academic quarter, his/they/her music privileges are revoked for the quarter.
  • TIER THREE:  If a student loses their music privileges for two (2) quarters (any two (2) quarters in an academic year), he/they/she will lose all music privileges under Mr. Mantei's instruction for no less than one (1) academic year.

Homework

  • Readings are the only homework that will be assigned
  • Texts are to aid the student in success for all required tasks.
  • Readings may be formally assessed.

Extra/Co-Curricular Students

  • All tasks will be turned in or taken before the event.

Extra Credit

  • Students will be given opportunities to earn extra credit points throughout the semester.

Daily Points

Daily points consist of 10 points per 50 minute class period.
  • 1 point = 10 minutes of continual work
  • 2 points = being prepared to work for the entire class period.
  • 3 points = on time for class ('on time' refers to sitting and getting to work)
*Note: All daily points will be taken if a specific classroom expectation (here) is in violation.

Cell Phone
Cell phones are a privilege in class and is to be used as an educational tool. Cell phones policy is subject to change due to classroom dynamics. In other words, if a class cannot adhere to the policy of utilizing cell phones as an education tool, the policy will revert to restricting usage. An example of rationale for cell phone restriction would be if students are using social media while working on tasks.

Semester Exams
Semester exam overview:
  • Semester exams are worth 300 total points.
  • Semester exams evaluate three experiences (100 points/each).
  • Semester exams must be submitted here in PDF format.
