Events after 1945 drastically transformed the American culture; from McCarthyism, the Civil Rights Movement, and various armed conflicts.  The American society has experience a drastic transformation politically, socially, and militarily. Dwight D. Eisenhower stated,  "If you want total security, go to prison.  There you're fed, clothed, given medical care, and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom."
